Better Than Takeaway & Ready in 30 Minutes

Sticky, sweet, savoury, and packed with flavour, this healthier Asian Sticky Chicken is a family favourite. Made with simple ingredients and naturally sweetened with honey, it's the perfect weeknight dinner when you're craving takeaway flavours without the additives.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 600g chicken thigh fillets, diced

  • 1 tbsp avocado oil or olive oil

  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed

  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated

Sticky Sauce

  • ¼ cup tamari or low-sodium soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp honey

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • ½ cup chicken stock

  • 1 tsp arrowroot powder or cornflour

  • 1 tbsp water

To Serve

  • Steamed jasmine rice or brown rice

  • Broccoli or Asian greens

  • Spring onions, sliced

  • Sesame seeds

Method

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the tamari, honey, maple syrup, tomato paste, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and chicken stock.

  2. Mix the arrowroot powder with water in a separate cup and set aside.

  3. Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.

  4. Add the chicken and cook for 6–8 minutes until golden and cooked through.

  5. Stir in the garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

  6. Pour in the sauce and bring to a gentle simmer.

  7. Stir through the cornflour mixture and cook for 2–3 minutes until the sauce becomes thick, glossy, and beautifully sticky.

  8. Serve over rice with steamed greens.

  9. Top with spring onions and sesame seeds.
